Unfortunately I can testify that a half-full water bladder does, indeed,
help cushion a fall <g> but as for the other stuff, I don't put anything
"hard" in the backback because I don't want it to crack my spine for me if
I fall on my back. I keep a truck key and a chapstick in the key pocket
of my tights, and anything else I need I either tie to the saddle or I put
in a separate fannypack.
