Re: RC: Ticks!

-Opps! I HATE it when that happens!
Ticks... I keep several of my horses in a 20 acre pasture that is loaded
with ticks, and ride at a park that is notorious for them at this time
of year.
I get a permethrin concentrate that costs about $30 a quart, and is
mixed an ounce to 2.5 gallons of water or water / oil for direct
application. If a horse is loaded, I'll use 10 cc's of liquid ivemectrin
to worm them in addition to dipping, because that knocks them off too. I
have four horses and I'm frugal, this works well and is cheap and safe.
I keep it mixed up in a 1/2 gallon bucket with a tight lid, and apply it
with a sponge where ticks hang out or gain access to a horse every 3 to
5 days or as needed. I douse their legs to the knees, belly, loin, under
the head and around the muzzle, the mane and dip the tail. I'll
sometimes mix it with baby oil and apply it to legs, face and the end of
the tail before a ride, but usually do it when I get home.
I also spray my tights with it, and sometimes the ends of my hair (it's
long) because I hate ticks!!!
