High Pulse
I ride a heavily muscled Belgian/Qh cross mostly in CTR's, with a 50
thrown in a couple of times a year. He will recover, but it takes some
work in the hot weather lots of cool water and sponging. For the final
20 minute pulse I just keep sponging and take him to P&R when my time is
up, don't bother to take the time to check while I am sponging. I also
ride an Arab, and I hardly sponge him at all and his pulse drops like a
rock. When I ride with friends who have Arabs, we compare pulses while
riding along and the big boy is always 10 points higher. But the good
news is that they will recover and I also think it takes longer to
achieve the same conditioning on the big horse vs. the Arab.
Lots of Morgans out there doing a great job.
