Carolyn, My friend rides Morgans and we often condition together over the winter. The morgans seem to have a higher running pulse than my Arabs. My Arab will run at 170 galloping uphill in the winter, and she'll be about 225 or more with her MOrgan. Her Morgans are quite fit --- her mare has won several CTR championships & reserves. Altho the MOrgans seem to have a higher running pulse, and a somewhat higher resting pulse than the Arabs, they do recover to 44 or less 20 min after the end of CTR's. My friend is also an experienced CTR competitor and tries to leave enough time to walk her horse in at the end of a CTR so it won't lose points on pulse. Perhaps some Morgan owners can comment here, but my observation has been that the Morgans' pulse runs higher and may take a little more work to get down than an Arab's, but a Morgan can make an excellent distance horse. Good luck, Nancy Md =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
