I'm just south of San Jose CA, and I pay $30 for a trim, $70 for
straight shoeing and $80 for anything fancy. "Fancy" is the farriers
discretion!
I get good consistent shoeing and my farrier is always exactly on time
and calls the night before to remind me. My horses and my vet like him.
AND - he answers more questions than a kindergarten teacher! He's good.
