When I got married, my husbands place was literally crawling with gophers
(Richardson's ground squirells). I brought home two kittens that spring, and
before very long they were catching the really dumb ones. Our male cat,
George, got particularly good at catching them, and although we live near
lots of big open grain fields, and the cats are now 10 years old we honestly
no longer have more than an occassional gopher try to even move in. Just be
sure to feed you cats a good healthy diet, so they have the energy
requirements to catch gophers, don't depend on the squirells being their sole
diet. Also remember to worm for tapes regularly, as gophers are hosts for
tapes.
