I agree/ But it is VERY nice to see others have this view also. I
remember when my Dad was alive, he came out to build a fence for me.
My oldest son(an 8th grader at the time) asked if he could stay home and
work with Grandpa.Dad not available OR into work!) I said sure. I'm a
teacher, but there are more than books that kids need sometime. Anyway,
to make a long story a little shorter, when I came home they were still
at it , and the fence was almost up! Around dark, my Dad(from Ireland
and used to and work all his life) went home. My son said(as my Dad's
truck pulled out) "Is he GONE?" I said "Yes--why?" he said, "Is he
REALLY gone?" I again said"Yes--what's the problem?" HE said"My God!!I
have NEVER worked SO hard in my life! He's an OLD man! We never even
took a break!! How can he do it? I have to go to bed. I can't even
walk. I didn't want him to see how beat I really am!" (This was a kid
in VERY good shape who has worked on our farm and played football.
Grandpa was about 69 or so at the time.) It was a wondeerful lesson for
him as he had a new respect for older men--and needed to have respect
for men in general. I loved it! HE still remembers it in his 30"s. And
DOES hard physical work at HIS plaace also. So--I guess there is hope
for those of us "older" endurance people who still have to work and ride
for both our minds and bodies! Maureen
