This reminds me of a story my Dad told about the farmers cutting hay by
hand when he was a boy (Minnesota, circa 1925). They would walk through
the hayfield in a slanting line like a flock of geese, swinging their
scythes to and fro. One day while watching a group of men mowing, he
turned to his father and asked "Why does grandfather go so slowly?" His
father's answer was "Just try to keep up with him!"
