Perhaps. But without the rider to train, condition, and ride the horse
there is no sport. The rider's ride affects the horse. Everything the
rider does (feeding, conditioning, medical care, everything) affects
what the horse can accomplish and while the vets may only be checking
the horse's pulse, respiration,etc. is it not indicative o the rider's
skill at caring for his/her horse? I will always believe that distance
riding is a sport for horse and rider, no matter what the "rules" may
say...I think some people get too caught up in wording sometimes. Heck,
without the riders to pay their membership fees (or non member fees)
there wouldn't be an AERC to tell us that the horse is all that counts,
right? Tongue in cheek here....
