Re: Alfalfa hay and gastric ulscers
Here in Australia we call alfalfa Lucerne hay. I have always fed Lucerne
hay. One of my horses a 16+hh Thoroughbred who was a monster used to always
colic and started to show signs of founder. This was due to stomach ulcers.
When he was on grain he couldn't process it properly and it would cause
ulcers. I was told by an old timer to feed him molasses as it coats the
ulcer and settles it down........ wrong. Anyway to cut a long story, we
started feeding acidolphius yoghurt and he never had a problem again.
