Re: Alfalfa hay and gastric ulscers
In regards specifically to gastric ulcers, dunno. But there is increasing
evidence and speculation that the high calcium content of alfalfa lowers the
pH of the hindgut, contributing to enteroliths (there are other reasons than
that, as well). However, even if my horse did have ulcers, there are
certainly better ways to manage them than feeding alot of alfalfa.
Interesting, though.
