Hello again,
Catching up here.
So, in reading up on the Pony Express,
I found that the "50 mile" definition
is set in historical context.
While runs differed depending on the
weather, terrain, and other factors
(horses being run off for example),
the basic pony express rider's run
was 50 miles. Stations were about 10
miles appart and the rider would change
horses every ten miles. When the rider
had completed his 50 mile run, another
rider would take over.
Thus the "50 mile" endurance ride.
What we do is a bit different, but the
50 mile length is set in history.
