I really try to be very careful with the reins especially when I am off
her back. I always snap off the reins from the vosal to the halter
because if she accidently steps on the reins while eating, drinking or
just plain walking down the trail, I don't want the metal nose band to
break her nose.
I use the vosal with a rope (natural style) halter. I just put her
halter on and snap the vosal straps above the halter knots near her
eyes. I've had no problem and I can snap the reins to her halter and tie
her up or let her relax with no worry.
I didn't know you could get leather chinstraps. I have the metal ones
and I know that is what gives me the control. The leather ones may be
like riding in a halter and knowing my horse, she may take me for a
ride.
