Barley hay Oat hay
DE (MCal/lb) 0.81 0.79
Protein (%) 8.8 8.6
Ca (%) 0.21 0.29
P (%) 0.25 0.23

Given the low Ca figure in barley hay, I would not feed it as my only
roughage, but it would work well in combination with alfalfa. Straight oat
hay is fine, but if fed with very much grain, the addition of alfalfa or
some other source of Ca would be in order.
