<< He is very solid on the miles but I would like to finish a little sooner
then 20 hours. We have been working on strengthening his back, etc.....
but I am still interested in speeding up his 100s, not really sure what
type of training/conditioning program.

Assuming you're getting enough weekly distance in to make a significant
difference in fitness, then I would increase the speed of the overall work,
possibly breaking it into sections with rest periods between. Give me a
sample week's work and let me see what I'd do with it philosophically.
