Bugz07; you should claim to be an "expert"! After all of the "voodoo" =
stuff I have read here this morning, your post is a breath of clear, =
sweet air. Just to add to it...Feeding alfalfa, which is high in =
protein, helps to get them to drink more water. That's why a horse =
urinates more on an alfalfa or high protein diet. Anyway, nice job! That =
is very good "common" as well as good "scientific" sense. Best regards, =

I'm no expert, but I know it's not good for your horse to suddenly =
change
feeds. When it's cold, more hay is better than more grain. The =
digestive
process produces more heat from hay. If you're going to change or add
different feed, do it gradually over a period of about 7 days. I do =
this
even when changing types of hay. You also need to make sure your horse =
is
drinking plenty of water. They tend to not drink cold water. Colic is =
a big
danger in colder weather for this reason. Try giving warm water a =
couple of
times a day. Providing ample salt is another way to encourage drinking =
and
it helps them retain water . Your horse may be reacting more to being =
kept
stalled or from the change in temperature. Do you blanket?
