Back in October I started treatment on a horse with rear end lamness.
After 2700 miles, my horse started pulling rear muscles. One of the main
characteristics of his lamness was slipping in the rear; he could hardly
lounge a circle without slipping. A horse with hock problems also trots
really wide in the rear. I'm not talking about a power trot, but a trotout
for the vet. He had a terrible time turning around on a trot out. His
muscles were sore on top of his rear. Also a horse with sore hocks has
real trouble going downhill, and may stumble..I had to unlearn leaning back
going downhill, it makes it much harder on the horse! We injected his hocks
with hyaluronic acid and he is on vit E-Se, and CS.
I promised I'd write you "the rest of the story" .....
Bo doesn't slip anymore. He never did after treatment. He is much more
flexible going down hill. I took him on his first ride back last week,
reluctantly, because it was very hilly! He finished with As on gait! I
was SO HAPPY! And to add icing on the cake, he was SOUND the day
after..not even muscle sore! I doubled the CS dosage three days before and
two days after the ride. I gave him MSM after the ride for several days.
Now I can't say that tomorrow he will be sound and I know he won't last
forever, but this worked for us, and were we ever happy to be back on the
trail again!
So many little things I did before, during and after that ride to help Bo
get through were from the advice of you all on this list. THANKYOU!
