My horse has a complete table at every vet check-alfafa/grass hay/bran =
mash w/corn & oats/dry concentrate(Pure Pride 100). The only one I =
limit is the dry concentrate (no more than one pound per stop) since it =
is the only one that he tends to eat too much of. He seems to perfer =
the hay most of the time. His gut sounds usually improve as the day =
goes along-so I conclude that for him, these little meals are good. He =
has never had a metabolic problem and most of his miles have been TT.
I give him a normal grain ration the night before a ride and a snack =
(1-1/12 lbs) a couple of hours before the ride. He has all of the hay =
(grass and alfafa) he wants during the night. I do not try to carbo =
load him before a ride-just replace the energy he uses. He also gets =
fat all of the time.

How about small frequent feedings through-out the day of the race? Good =
for
the blood sugar, but how about the gut?
Has anyone tried this with success or disaster?
