USUAL "NETIQUETTE" WHEN USING LISTS
These points have been taken from other lists.
Use your discretion concerning replies to the list or to individuals. The
current reply is to the list, but replies to the original sender may often
be the preferred option.
Be concise.
Give a clear subject.
When replying to the list or an individual, include only enough of the
original to make your context clear.
Use a signature which gives your name, address, and email address.
1) Don't waste bandwidth and other people's time with junk postings. The
biggest sin is sending personal mail to the list. The next biggest is
postings that say "I agree". Posting such as "Jim, can I have a copy of
that reference please" should be sent to Jim personally.
People who do this sort of thing on other lists are usually reprimanded
swiftly by the list manager.
2) If you post something, include all the details such as contact names,
addresses, phone numbers, email address etc. Try to include references.
3) Do a conventional search on Medline etc. and standard textbooks before
asking the list.
4) Stick to the subject of the list and don't use it as a chatline.
5) If you post a question, as courtesy to those who have spent time
helping you, compile all the responses into one posting (with suitable
editing of headers etc) and send it back to the list.
6) If the subject matter of your request is very narrow, suggest to
people that they contact you directly off the list. You can then post a
summary to the list a few days later.
