Re: [RC] more barefoot/booted ?? - Marirose SixTo my understanding, about 60% of a standing horses' weight is on the front hooves. Now, when they move, the hind end engages under them for power, but their weight is still forward. In fact, the faster they go, the more forward the weight--that's why jockeys ride forward--. As for me, I tend ot sometimes bear more weight on one foot than the other (past knee injury), therefore, the sole on one shoe often wears faster than the other. My theory on front shoes & not behind is based on this line of thought. I have practiced this theory off & on, for different reasons, with good success. I have seen that 'my' barefoot horses have often worn their front hooves more. I have seen 'my' shod horses wear their front shoes much quicker. I am my own farrier, so whether or not I can find a good farrier has no bearing on what I do. I can change what I am doing whenever I see a need for something different. I have limited experiance with boots, most of it bad, but a long time ago, so I know there have been improvements.
