Re: [RC] sponging or not - Maggie MieskeWhen Jenny and I did our first 100 at Grand Island, we realized how much the horses looked forward to their cooling/sponging/drinking/snacking time with our pit crew: ?Nelson and Daniel would "call" us in by hooting and hollering for us. ?We'd slosh the horses' necks, scrape it off, take a breather, and off we'd go, refreshed and invigorated. ?We also discovered that by mimicking the hooting and hollering when the horses started lagging on the trail, we could trick them into renewed vigor, even when Nelson and Daniel were nowhere in sight! ?It still works to this day! ?:) ?And since they always were eventually there, they never knew we tricked them. ?:) ? Bridge.? I rode down to the river, pulled the saddle, and Cinnamon went
into the river, lay down and rolled in the water.? It was so funny to
see...? I then re-saddled him, mounted up, and we climbed out of the canyon
with renewed enthusiasm.?
