Re: [RC] Trailering with automatic transmission - Michael LewisDefinitely a fan of the six-speed manual transmission. After replacing the automatic on a previous truck, I made the decision that any future truck would not have an automatic. The new automatics are too "techie" and there's no way I'm going to be on the hook for repair when they eventually do fail, but I'm not one who trades a $35,000+ truck every few years to stay in warranty...Been burned by automatics twice... not again!! :-) Mike Bad spellers of the world, untie! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barbara McCrary" <bigcreekranch@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To: "Raven" <iceponygoddess@xxxxxxxxx>; "ridecamp" <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, January 30, 2009 11:25 AM Subject: Re: [RC] Trailering with automatic transmission A long hill that spooks me is the highway down into Death Valley. It goes down a very long alluvial fan, at least 20 miles, maybe more. It's been so long since we last drove it I can't remember the length, but it is a steady grade. I've been over Tehachapi Pass many times and I don't remember it as being frightening, but I suppose I've forgotten; but Towne Pass into Death Valley is definitely a "remember" one, as well as the highway from Owens Valley over the mountains into Panamint Valley. With Lud's Dodge diesel and 6-speed stick shift, I'm not so nervous about those grades. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
