Re: [RC] right vehicle for towing - Kathy MayedaI pull my 2-horse slant trailer with a Chevy 1/2 ton. I got the 1/2 ton because it was supposed to be my commute vehicle as well, so I didn't want to burn 7mpg, AND I DIDN'T KNOW ANY BETTER! I don't regret getting the truck - it's a good truck and it does get me around. However after awhile, I realized that pulling two horses in my trailer really strains my undersized truck. I do have a good wheelbase so the trailer doesn't fishtail - 9 years later and I still have the same set up, but I missed out on trips to Yosemite because I'm not comfortable with hauling steep grades with that truck anymore. My horses hated the Brendurups I borrowed. And yes car's have no problem pulling them. Someone commented to me that they were following a Brendurup and watched it bounce quite a bit while loaded on the road. My horses have no problem with my Trails West slant. My next horse hauling vehicles will be a 3/4 ton diesel at the least. I see no reason for me to get anything smaller. The driving slow to compensate for the less than ideal car/trailer configuration seems rather silly and dangerous to me. And they will not change MY mind, that towing with anything less that a 3/4 ton is asking for issues.
