Re: [RC] New FEI drug rule...question about placings at a ride - Truman Prevatt
One drug that has an extremely short half life and would probably not
show up in at any significant levels 12 hours after given is a whole
different can of worms than NSIDS given up to the time the ride starts.
Omeprazole is also a drug which there is not unanimity within the AERC
membership as far as its use with many believing it should be allowed.
On the other hand I double if you will find many AERC members
supporting bute being given to a horse within 24 hours of the start.
It all comes down to how the FEI implements the change. If it is waived
for endurance or if it is waived to various NO then we might not have
an issue. If it's one size fits all across all disciplines with no
waivers because they want FEI endurance run on a level playing field
with the same rules world wide - then as John Swigert said "Houston we
have a problem." Since it goes into effect in a short time I expect we
will be finding out soon.

These issues are already being dealt with. FEI allows
omeprazole (ulcer medication), AERC does not. All FEI rides are also
sanctioned AERC and therefore AERC rules apply.
