That is very admirable and the right attitude. However, in the 2008
Olympics the German team was under investigation for drug use. Four
show jumpers were disqualified for drug use. And a US dressage team
lost their placing because one of their riders was disqualified doping
her horse.
So there seems to be a problem with drug use in international dressage
and show jumping which is probably why the FEI has moved to change the
drug rule so they won't have to disqualify horses in the future.
We are at a Dressage barn with many
of the top CDS and Region 7 USDF rider with both pro and amateur
competeing at the FEI levels.
There is not one rider here [us
included] that would compete or even work their horse if it were sore,
let alone needing Bute or another similar drug. Our horses are our
partners and any competition win is not worth risking their long term
health.
