[RC] Another question on canter leads - k s swigartFor those of you who canter their endurance horses on long straight aways at endurance rides (or in training), how often do you change leads, if you do? Me?? While I change diagonals at the trot on every 10 strides (actually 10 1/2 to be completely accurate), if I am cantering a long distance (which I don't that often because the trail conditions rarely ever allow it), I will usually change about every 100 srides, but it depends upon how long I think the canter is going to be.? And I don't do flying changes, I do simple changes. I don't do this THAT much because there just aren't that many trails around here where some feature of the terrain doesn't require some kind of a change (either a sharpish turn or the footing or slope changes such that I want to stop cantering anyway, after which, if it is another straight away, I just pick up the other lead). As an example, for those of you who have or are going to canter substantial portions of a ride like Git R Done where there is no slope to speak of, few turns, and consistent footing, I am interested to know how often and how you change leads. kat Orange County, Calif. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
