[RC] Statement from KPP on Neigh Lox concern - Mary Howell

Title: Statement from KPP on Neigh Lox concern
Hello all -

I have used various supplements produced by Kentucky Performance Products (kppusa.com), including Neigh Lox, for many years, and was concerned after reading the article posted on Endurance Net last week about a Neigh Lox recall. I contacted Delia Nash at KPP for more detail, who provided the following press release:

November 4th 2009

Kentucky Performance Products (KPP) has been made aware that Saracen Horse
Feeds in England has announced a re-call of Neigh-Lox equine antacid, lot number
9B04-408, due to allegations that the product is contaminated with Ractopamine, a
common additive in pig feeds to promote muscle growth.  Ractopamine has not been
found to be harmful to the health of horses.  However, it is included on the FEI’s
[Federation Equestre Internationale] banned substance list due to its apparent use
by some as a performance enhancer.

KPP has received no other complaints regarding Neigh-Lox.

At this time, the allegations are unsubstantiated.  KPP takes such allegations very
seriously.  KPP’s main concern is for the health and wellbeing of the horses that
depend on this product.  KPP has requested and is currently awaiting receipt of
product samples from the parties making these allegations along with copies of the
results of any lab tests performed by these parties.  When received, KPP and the
manufacturer of the product will promptly test these samples to determine whether
there is any merit to these allegations.

Since first becoming aware of these allegations, KPP began diligently working with
the product’s manufacturer to investigate the claims. Preliminary results of this
investigation indicate that all proper manufacturing procedures were followed. All
preliminary assays of the manufacturer's retained product samples have shown no
detectable amounts of the alleged contaminant.  KPP and the manufacturer are
conducting additional testing to ensure the continuing quality and safety of the
product.

KPP will release additional information regarding its investigation as soon as it
becomes available.
