Re: [RC] re: Git R Done fees - Lori BertolucciI can understand fundraisers. I commend those RM that are willing to do that. I also agree with you that the RM on GRD may be a acting a bit foolish at making the ride so prohibitive, unless that was exactly why they did it? I will readily admit, I know squat about FEI and AERC's connection with them. But what I would like to know is...does AERC contribute anything to this ride? Aside from just the sanctioning of it? Yep, unlikely that a regular AERC rider will do this particular ride. I think this particular ride is an exception to the rule, and probably not a trend.
I have a T-Shirt that I bought that was a fundraiser for Michele Roush and Tallymark to campaign for the Worlds. They also had bake sales and raffles at the local rides for her. Desert Gold Multi-Day was originated as a fundraiser for them to go to UAE to compete. So it just takes a lot more determination and grit to ride FEI than us normal AERC slackers.
The economy has been so bad that I don't think most ride managers would do something foolish like this right now to make it so cost prohibitive for just AERC riders under normal circumstances. There's been a few ride cancellations lately due to lake or ridership.
