[RC] Protective Vests - susan golshaniThe Horse Journal, kinda Consumer reports for horse people, http://www.horse-journal.com/ did some testing on vests and reported on them in the September 2009 issue. Surprisingly, some popular vests, ie tipperary, did not even have an ASTM/SEI logo The American Society for Testing Materials, or ASTM, sets standards for body Body Protectors Event riders routinely wear a body-protector vest.protectors. The Safety Equipment Institute, or SEI, then tests the vests to see if they meet or exceed these standards. Horse Journal tested half a dozen vest and gave both Intec Flex-rider and lami-cell editors choice check marks with best buy going to Intec-Flex-rider. They also tested the more expensive charles owens jl9, woofwear ergo, airowear outlyne, and tipperary 1015 eventer. None of these 4 were SEI certified although some claimed to meet ASTM standards. -- Susan Tweedale-Hill (Golshani) 61500 Rose Hill Rd Salesville, OH 43778-9623 1-740-679-2333 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
