Re: [RC] Research Committee News in EN - Diane TrefethenElizabeth Walker wrote:This solution presupposes that horses who die don't recover within 30 minutes. But we do not know that. There are no finish line pulse times in the Horse Fatality Reports. Heidi has suggested that horses are more likely to evince trouble after they have had some time to "let down" so of the horses who get completions, maybe it is the ones that *are* pulsed and examined within 30 minutes that are dying. If so, then for a horse not in any apparent trouble, it makes more sense to have a rule requiring it to wait at least 30 minutes before getting its completion exam than to have a rule requiring it to pulse within 30 minutes. In other words, perhaps the crack that dead horses are falling through isn't the first 30 minutes window but rather the 20-50 minutes after finishing window, when the horse starts to relax and begins to feel pain more acutely. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
