We were chatting away and Chris asked me what type of bit I was using. "oh, that's the Myler combination bit - it has the rawhide noseband and curbchain and actually applies nose and poll pressure as well as the fairly mild bit - and I can attach the rains in a snaffle position, or use the shanks for a little curb action, it's worked well for this horse, blah blah blah". A minute of trotting, then Chris said "but... there's nothing in his mouth". !!! what? I looked down and sure enough the bit was dangling below his chin!! And this is a horse that makes me want to fasten my seatbelt when I get on, and make sure the reins are strong and I would NEVER consider starting a ride with him in a hackamore! My middle horse, Fox, used to be a race horse and broke 4 of my bones running out from under me. For some reason that I don't remember, I tried him in a leather sidepull. He loved it and was incredibly responsive. However, I have yet to have a horse I would trust in a stampede start endurance race. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
