 Granted, this happened about 3  years ago, during the interim my young 
granddaughter rode him and completed

This is exactly what I did, only the rider was a grandson.  He did so many 
miles of exploring in the mountains on his own and doing  goofy boy stuff on 
Tali that all the spook (well ALMOST all) is gone and his mom, our adult 
daughter,  recently  did her first ever ride at Redwoods.  Maybe your horse 
will come back  to you kid proofed too.

I remember one afternoon in particular when I got a call from Gabe.  Don't 
all teens carry cell phones?  He was lost.  Sort of.  He was up on the side 
of a mountian and could see the river and a neighbor's barn and the highway 
far below him but hadn't a clue how to get home.  I told him about an old 
farm road that he could work his way down to and then called a couple of 
neighbors on the road, which is  posted with No Trespassing signs.  One 
neighbor said, "Gray Arab?  Yup he just passed here."
