[RC] The AERC National Championship is only a month away! - Karen

The AERC National Championship ride for 2009 is being held in beautiful Greenville, California at a privately owned summer camp called Copper Creek:  http://www.coppercreek.com/ The ride is 2 hours from Lake Tahoe, 30 minutes from Lassen National Park, and about 5 hours from the San Francisco Bay Area. Camp will be in a large meadow with plenty of room for RV's and large rigs.

The 100 mile ride takes place on Friday, September 11, 2009 and the 50 mile event takes place on Sunday, September 13, 2009.  Trail information:  Keddie Ridge is the northern-most mountain ridge of the Sierra Nevada Range. It is a little known area with fantastic scenery and hidden lakes. The ride will use existing, but rarely used roads and single track trails on the Plumas and Lassen National Forests and on private forest lands. Elevations range from 3500 feet to 6500 feet.

Crews have easy access at both camp and away vet checks.

To qualify you must meet the following requirements.  Note that you can also ride as an unqualified rider if willing to sponsor a junior and receive AERC mileage credit.

50-mile ride: 300 lifetime miles (horse) AND 300 lifetime miles (rider), with at least 100 miles together. The mileage requirements must be met with endurance competitions of 50 miles or more only -- no limited distance miles count towards qualification criteria.

100-mile ride: 500 lifetime miles (horse) AND 500 lifetime miles (rider), with at least one 100 mile, one day ride together. The mileage requirements must be met with endurance competitions of 50 miles or more only -- no limited distance miles count towards qualification criteria.

1000 AERC Endurance miles, horse and rider as a team, is qualified to enter both rides.

Riders from states other than California must present a current Veterinary Health Inspection certificate.

Ride entry forms can be downloaded from this link:  http://patriotsdayride.com/2009_entry.pdf  Entries that are received by August 15 will be put into a drawing to receive a $25 entry fee discount.

There will be lots of great ride awards and prizes as well as plenty of entertainment and other educational seminars.  If you are coming from out of the area, bring a trailer full of horses so you can ride one or both distances of the National Championship ride and then do the 42nd annual Virginia City 100 on September 19, 2009.

For more information on the AERC NC, visit the Patriot's Day website:  http://patriotsdayride.com/index.html We'll be getting it set up to provide live news feeds from the event while it takes place as well as (hopefully) a live video cam.  Check back later for lists of riders and more as it becomes available!   See you there!
