Re: [RC] Strangles in SE region - D'Arcy Demianoff-ThompsonOne of the solutions I implemented at the farm in FL is to take preventative measures for cross contamination.
1. Before horse is loaded back into the trailer for horse transport from a competition the horse is washed down with a mix of 10 parts water and 1 part bleach - per horse.
2. A pad is put in front of the loading ramp of the trailer with a 50/50 (water/bleach). The horse is to step onto the pad prior to entering the transport or trailer.
3. Step Two is repeated at ALL stops - where the horse is unloaded and reloaded - including final arrival destination.
The thing to remember is there are more than one types of strangles strain. What we have found out is that none of the strains can survive chlorine!
