Re: [RC] re: Melissa's view of the Duck :) - Steph Teeter

And we rode the 2001 XP (the ride was 2000 miles - Missouri to California) with no ribbons at all, only gps coordinates, and few or no water sets - some of the riders/crews organized water provision as needed. It's amazing to me how little we (riders ) really need, as long as we're aware of what lies ahead. In my experience as a ride manager, and as a guest at rides around the world - the more the riders/horses are taken care of, the more demanding the riders become and the more they are willing to take risks with their horses. As a rider, I heartily applaud Dave's XP spirit. (tho truth be told, as a ride manager I am a bit more paranoid about possible disasters and contingencies).

There was/is one vet check at approximately 25 miles and very laid back criteria. Interestingly, no horses got in trouble despite these very relaxed criteria. >>
