[RC] June 13 Old Dominion ride update - Mary HowellHello Ridecampers: Despite heavy rains in various parts of Virginia the past few days, the Old Dominion ride manager reports that the area around Orkney Springs has been spared these recent downpours. Plus, wonderful member Gus Politis installed a 1/4 mile long gravel road through the basecamp field so even those without 4WD can enter/exit without having to worry about getting stuck. We're especially excited about our new vet check, Bird Haven, which is the first hold for all three distances. It has a big grassy field and gravel parking area with plenty of room for everyone's vehicles. This year's June 13 OD ride is not only the second ride in the OD "Triple Crown" series but also the 55 and 100 mile rides are AHA Region 15 Championship rides. Pre-entries total over 150 horses for the three distances (29 riders in the 100 miler and over 50 in both the 25 and 55 milers). After Friday dinner and the regular ride meeting around 7pm, there is a special meeting where newer riders will have plenty of time to get all of your questions answered. Because the vet checks are located away from basecamp, the Old Dominion rides depends on a large number of volunteers (unpaid help!) to make our rides possible. Some of these volunteers are more experienced than others and we are hoping the newer folks will have a great time and want to come back. Thanks in advance to everyone out there lending a hand to make this year's event a success! Visit www.olddominionrides.org for more information. Hope to see you there!
