Just out of curiosity-----must you have a permit to carry an UNCONCEALED weapon in California?

Many states require a permit for concealed but not if a weapon is visible? Some require a hunting license to carry a gun "in the field"

Rope horses and lariets might be interesting. (:>)
Would a rope be classed as a dangerous weapon?

Ah, Truman, don't I wish! But this is good old California, where we don't have a "shall issue" law, so depending on which county you reside in, it can be practically impossible to get a CCW permit. The poor horse owner would probably get cited if they even dared to carry a paint gun - which would probably work pretty well if it hit them in in the faceplate of the helmet. :)

Wonder if we can get that law passed here?
