[RC] Folsom Lake accident - shermanTitle: MessageI suspect that those
responsible for this accident don't belong to any organized group, are more
likely nearby young residents, misbehaving badly. Normally the water is
higher and the only passable trail is a narrow, deep trench (sometimes 3 foot
sides) filled with boulders, not so attractive to any motor usage,
and certainly the 4 wheelers could not even negotiate them if they wanted to.
Due to the drought we've had, the lake level has dropped so low,
exposing miles of sandy shoreline below that the motors can get thru
on, even though they are completely banned from this area. So it's not really a
matter of different groups getting along on the trails as it is illegal use of
the trails.

Folsom Lake accident - Cindy CollinsWhat a horrible, tragic, unnecessary accident! I am so sad. However, I do want to state to ride camp that the vast majority of motorcyclists are NOT like this. Most that I know, slow down or even stop or cut their motor when they come up on horses. So much of it is education, like everything in life. One proactive thing horse people can do is ask to speak at off road motorcycle club meetings about how motorcyclists should interact with animals on trails. This is an opportunity to do good PR. There are "bad apples" in every sport, including ours. Anyhow, just remember that all hunters aren't fat, bumbling, drunkards and all southern women don't have big hair and a low IQ (hi, Angie and Jody:) and all off-road motorcyclists are not jerks.
