Re: [RC] Yucca in feed - Weed Free Hay - steveb

This has been a concern of my regarding Certified Weed Free Hay. I don't
want to change hay when I get to a ride. We ended up buying a ton of CWFH
and have been gradually changing over to it prior to the Prineville ride
this weekend. It's not very good hay, but the horses eat it and I won't
have to change at the ride.

I don't like this requirement...

A question for you vets out there - would it not be better for the
horse to simply choose another feed than to CHANGE feeds just before an
event? I get a little squiggly over that prospect. I hardly change my own
SOCKS right before a ride.

To me, the simple answer has been overlooked: Just discontinue
feeding the Triple Crown (or any product that contains undesireable
contents) at least 96 hours prior to competition. I believe that is the
timeframe for substances to pass through the body and not show up on
race day. Likewise, this is the procedure for feeding fats, discontinue
feeding rice bran and other fats about three days prior to competition,
not for "drug" reasons, but for metabolic reasons. Then after arriving
home from competition, continue with "normal" diet.
