The only problem I've had with leaving a mask on all the time is the tan lines. :) Topper's coat tends to fade in the summer and the part under the mask stays darker than any other part of his coat. Without intervention, he would look like a buckskin raccoon by September...
I prevent that by alternating two different types of masks so the line is more gradual. Also, switching the masks out gives you a chance to check for wear and remove ouchies like burrs and foxtails that get caught in the fleece.
