A lot of people are spooked by what happened to Natasha Richardson--most of us probably don't need to worry unduly though.

I think they're suspecting she had an pre-existing aneurysm that was likely to burst with very little trauma. That's probably why they couldn't save her despite giving excellent medical care in a fairly prompt manner.

Most people's skulls are pretty robust. Having said that, of course one should be watchful. I wouldn't stress out worrying over every little bump though--that's kinda falling into the "fragile egg" theory of the brain--similar to the "fragile environment" theories about nature. Brains and nature both recover from all sorts of trauma.....

OTOH, I had to have an head MRI some years back (related to migraines) and when the neurologist was reviewing the results he asked when I was in an accident because there was obvious brain trauma in the lower back left region. And I remembered that six weeks earlier I was at a NATRC ride gaiting along when my mare caught her back leg in a hole and went down and I flew over her head and hit the back of my head. I had a helmet on and the hit was visible on the inside foam. I continued to ride but by lunch my horse was lame and I had a headache, so we pulled from the ride, I was watched by friends, and we drove home the next day.

No *skull* injury -- but injury to the grey matter floating inside that was clearly visible almost two months later . . . and with a helmet having been worn.
