Re: [RC] 20th Birthday... - Barbara McCraryI remember it! I was looking out the front door of the hotel and thinking, "Oh, it's snowing." Since most of the AERC conventions were held in Reno, the snow didn't surprise me, until I suddenly remembered we weren't in Reno! The snow was blowing horizontal. The streets were closed down, and there were no restaurants open, so the hotel restaurant had to feed all of us. They were ill-equipped to feed that many people all at once. Various flights were delayed and re-routed. Instead of flying directly to San Francisco, I was sent to Denver, where I slept on the floor, or a bench, as I remember. I called my husband to tell him I was delayed. I think it was about 1 or 2 in the morning. Jackie Bumgardner's stallion, Fadwah, won the Jim Jones award, but Jackie never made it to the convention at all, as she was stuck in Minneapolis or somewhere near it.
