RE: [RC] Would like input on article related to feeding please. - Susan E. Garlinghouse, DVM
It’s pretty accurate (at least, I don’t have major
objections to any of the statements), other than Dr. Lawrence is a Laurie, not
a Lori. J
The primary addition I would add to the article’s
statements that not all oils are created equal (very true) is that all oils can
*become* pretty much equal if handled inappropriately and allowed to
oxidize. ANY grocery store brand of oil, with the exception of
extra-virgin olive oil, is going to be heat processed and therefore any omega
FA content has been rendered inactive---it’s now just a source of
calories and that’s about it. In order to take advantage of any
omega 3 or 6 content, the oil has to be cold pressed, (or the seed fed whole or
freshly ground as in the case of flax seed) and then kept in dark/opaque
containers, in a cold environment and repeated exposure to air minimized as
much as possible.

This link came up on another forum, and I would like to hear
what our nutrition guru's think?? Keeping it relative to the article. :o)
