RE: [RC] Platinum Performance - Susan E. Garlinghouse, DVMThat's my understanding as well, although such addition actually just (hopefully) provides more potential antioxidants against the free radicals produced in the body when fed oxidized fats---it doesn't actually slow down the initial oxidation in the product itself at all. Which strikes me more akin to giving a horse some bute after an injury has occurred, and then saying that providing the bute is just as good as preventing the injury in the first place. Thus, I tend to guard the freshness of any fat-soluble nutrients pretty closely, plus if I want to supply omega FAs specifically, then I do so by grinding the flax seed myself so I *know* the source is excruciatingly fresh. If I really had my druthers, you can't beat providing the carotenes, vit e and omegas right from the source via fresh pasture grazing---always better than any bucket you can buy. But "pasture" is darn hard to come by in So Cal at any time, more so during drought. We finally got some measurable rainfall the past month or so, and even a few minutes of grazing fresh growth along the trail (for free, no less) is always a good thing.
