Re: [RC] Overdue Mare - Eric RueterJan, You do not mention in what part of the country you are located. If you are located where there is a chance of your horse eating fescue grass or hay, then you *might* want to consider talking to a vet about all the problem associated with fescue. one of the problems is extended gestation periods. Others include thickened placentas, and lack of milk or colostrum. There is a drug treatment available, *IF* that is your problem. This is quite common here in the mid-South. thanx eric Eric Rueter 865-599-3594(C) 865-986-5966(H) 865-988-4134(W/F) On Mon, February 4, 2008 21:33, Jan Flaningan wrote: Any suggestions would be welcome on an overdue mare. She was bred February 12th, 2007 and was due January 25th. She is acting ok, but I don't feel the foal move. She has a hard udder and no milk in her nipples. I bred her and she was two weeks late but I felt movement in her mother. When does one start worrying and call a vet? This is an Arabian mare, first foal, bred to an Arabian and she is 10 years old. Thanks for any advice from the RC'ers. Jan =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
