RE: [RC] drugs allowed and withdrawal times - Kristen A Fisher
I realized recently that my hoof
supplement has MSM in it so I emailed Melissa Ribley as head of the vet
committee about it. This was her response:
The
new AERC drug rule that is in place as of 12/1/07 prohibits MSM. The drug
rule does not differentiate between any doses, including
"mega-doses". I have attached the appendix listing prohibited
substances and you will see MSM (methylsulfonylmethan) is listed as a
prohibited substance. Therefore the supplement should be withdrawn prior
to competition.

Yucca is also on the forbidden substance
list as well. Here is the new rule including the list of forbidden substances.
I plan to switch to a supplement that
does not have MSM so I won’t have to worry about withdrawal times.

withdrawal times
Hi :-) so I am reeeaaally trying to read and understand
the drug policy :-) as I have found a fabulous new product which is going to do
everything I want in one supplement and even better it is in chunks ( the
powders don't work very well as my very picky mare doesn't eat beet pulp
regularly) it has all vitamins, biotin ,glc etc.. that I want however also has
msm and yucca, so what I understand is that msm is o.k. as long as it is not
given in mega doses. What about yucca?? And if is not o.k. does anyone know
where I can find the withdrawal time for it?? It is not listed under the AERC
policy and I cannot find it when I did a search on the internet.
