Re: [RC] Feeding round bales - Marirose Six

When my round bales get delivered (semi-load) I borrow a tractor to get it all into the stackyard. Throughout the winter, I back the pickup into a bale, strap the bale to the reese hitch & drag it out to wherever I'm going to feed it. I did use a horse feeder for about 1/2 a winter one year. I found that keeping it contained in the feeder just help the horses consume it faster. They still drug enough hay out of the feeder to waste & it was a royal pain for me to try to get that thing over a bale. I just put a bale out, cut the twines & let them have at it. They like to see how quickly they can spread it, but they still eat almost all of it. I put each bale out in a different place, by summer those are just well fertilized areas. :o)
