Re: [RC] death is part of "life" - Jody Rogers-Buttram
Your right Cindy. The horses today are suffering something awful. And it is because of the ban on the slaughter houses. I hate than any of them have to suffer and die, BUT, there isn't room for all of them, many are lame and in pain, and MOST are starving somewhere or being dumped. One of the horses I just posted about, Booger, was just that case. He was part of a herd of 26 horses, that were shuffled all of the county on little spots of land not big enough for a dog. HALF of those horses died before anything happened. Then it was ME that finally did something and reported it. 5 horses were taken, Booger was dumped by the owner in a local wildlife preserve in deer season. Hunters found him, and brought him in.
So, yes, the local slaughter houses would be better than shipping out of the country or endless starvation.
And like Cindy....mine are buried in the back yard....with the dog, cats, rabbit, goldfish, hamster and Guinea Pig.

Personally, I think if you are too fragile to have a discussion about the death
and disposal of your animals, then you have no business owning them.
Some of you may know Dr. Matthew Mackay Smith, endurance rider and medical
editor of Equus. Matthew once said, "There are worse things in life for a
horse than death." I agree with him 100% on this. Also, along with every
vet I know, I am horrified by the banning of horse slaughter and the expected,
unintended consequences to horses. There are fates WAY more inhumane than the
slaughter house and that's what we're seeing now.
AND, before you think differently, my endurance horses are buried in our back
yard, as are our dogs. Cindy
