[RC] track horses clarification - Sheila_LarsenI don't know if the response Think the Reynolds would go cross country to work at Crerun, a large breeder of Arabians for the purpose of track racing, if there was biting endemic among their breeding?? was in response to my comment or not about race horse behavior, but to be perfectly clear the race horses I have worked with have been young, energetic, extremely fit and most importantly extremely bored and more full of energy then they can handle. It isn't their breeding per se it is the condition in which they are kept. I have known many off the track thoroughbreds that become very very nice riding horses. These horses while at the track are truly victims of their circumstances and because of that you give allowances. Once they are off the track and are let down it typically this kind of behavior goes away and they become "normal" horses in their behavior around people. While I would agree with the statement that you have "three seconds to kill a horse" for biting and I have done that, I would never do that to a horse on the back side of the track. You give them wide berth in the aisle and are careful in the stall (but that behavior usually doesn't manifest itself in the stall). Maybe it is different with arabian race horses. In my opinion, a horse is the animal to have. Eleven-hundred pounds of raw muscle, power, grace, and sweat between your legs - it's something you just can't get from a pet hamster. ~Author Unknown =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
