I have a foal who may or may not have cleft palate. My
regular vet said that there was no reason to have her scoped for a definitive
dx since there was nothing he could do, and a long conversation with an equine
surgeon yielded the same answer. The surgeon said that often these horses
have impaired airways; ie: not good for distance horse…which of course,
is exactly what I bred her to do. I had not considered this to be a big
issue till I talked to the surgeon today and now I’m a bit discouraged,
but wondered if anyone out there had dealt successfully with this is a
competition horse.
